Quatermass Records is an electronic music label from Belgium. Quatermass operates in a niche market and represents a very specific artistic profile. The label is a cultural icon for bold individualism, the avant-garde and raw originality.
The site was co-designed and programmed with Mark Kremers and Mikhaël van Straaten and the result is something ‘living’. The entire catalogue of the record label’s projects was made available on-line. The engine driving the site is intelligent and navigating through complex content via a singular interface was a big challenge for the designers.
Spending time on the site creates a sense of enormous empowerment – all the albums are right there to be explored in any order, from any direction. This meant that the interactive experience became one lead by discovery rather than the traditional cause & effect browsing.
The Quatermass Records site was included in a permanent exhibition of The Frankfurt Museum of Applied Arts that showcases digital art from the turn of the century.
