The Art of Science
REX has always believed that design can be used not only to inspire but to make a meaningful difference to business. As part of its project to express Markinor’s brand culture, the company embarked on an endeavour that resulted in the development of a revolving range of unique custom art works. Installed in the Markinor premises, these art works not only enhance the interior, but also serve to express the brand’s values, directly with people in the daily course of doing business.
Taking their cue from Markinor’s pride in its involvement, understanding and research of all things South African, the REX project team took inspiration from various research demographics, including age, time of day, weather conditions, and South African geographic locations. These four orientations were plotted on a matrix and became the brief for 25 different snapshots of South African life. For example, one work depicts evening, rainy town, Eastern Cape, 60 years. REX made use of various media, all of which were integrated on a digital platform, to create the works.
These are unique expressions of South Africa, inspired by the research work that Markinor does in this country, and they have been a talking point and fostered an internal sense of pride among Markinor employees and clients alike.
In this unique way, REX has revealed how art and design can be put to use as a brand internalisation tool, connecting the people of Markinor more strongly to what their brand represents. We are engaged and interested in, passionate and curious about South Africa – and this drives us to mine key insights and valuable business intelligence from this wonderful place – like no one else! This is the art of science!
